Thursday 30th July
This is what the Derwent looks like tonight
totally unfishable - a lot of very brown water.
The only thing to do is tie some flies !

Wednesday 29th July

Well folks I had a quick look at the Derwent this evening on my way home and fishing it doesn't look very promising loads of water and very coloured. Not sure when conditions will improve !

Saturday 25 July 2009

Still Saturday 25th July

Fished with a very good friend this afternoon above and below the Bobbin Mill on the Wye and finished up with 4 Brownies and 1 Grayling, my size 16 all brown fly doing very well.

Saturday 25th July

When I go fishing in England the last thing you expect to see is a Water Buffalo

Thursday 23 July 2009

Thursday 23rd July 2009

I managed to photograph with my new camera next time I will try and get more of the fish !!

Wednesday 22 July 2009

Wednesday 22nd July

Not sure if I will get out on to the river tonight !
This is my all brown fly which has caught some
very nice fish.

Monday 20 July 2009

Monday 20th July

I thought I better go and have a fish tonight because the weather for the next couple of days doesn't look good ! Nobody else was out tonight- so I booked beat 6 and got to the river about 20.00 just fished until 21.15
had 3 nice wild brownies to a Olive F Fly again before retiring to the Bridge for a pint.

Thursday 16 July 2009

Wednesday 15th July

Didn't get down to the river until 20.00 started just below Grindleford Bridge on beat 1 in the fast water and tried an Oliver Edwards Hans van Klinken LT and quickly had 1 brownie and 1 Grayling before moving under the bridge and up through beat 2 with a Olive F Fly and what a night only fished for about an hour and had a further 6 brownies. I took my camera for the first time and tried to photograph some of the fish - and I must say I didn't find it very easy - I kept
losing the fish !

Sunday 12 July 2009

Sunday 12th July

Well after the rain last night, I didn't think the river would be fit but I booked beats 6/7 and
arrived about 14.30 to find it great condition. I waded up from the waterfall with a Olive F Fly
and what a session 7 brownies and 1 grayling in 2 hours. A really enjoyable afternoon.

Tuesday 7 July 2009

Monday 6th July

It rained in bucket fulls most of the day in Doncaster today and still raining hard
when I arrived home in Baslow. I thought the best place in fish was beat 21, I didn't get to the river until 20.00hrs and the temp had dropped to 14c, I waded up from the bottom of the beat waiting for a rise. I still had one of my all brown flies left and cast it up t0 the first rise and what a cracking rainbow of all of 2lbs -first rainbow I've caught on that beat as it is mainly wild brownies. Things really went off and I only had one more wild brownie to the dry. Left the river at 21.15 and headed for the pub.

Saturday 4 July 2009

Saturday 4th July

We had quite a lot of rain yesterday, but the Derwent today was in great shape. I booked
beats 14 & 15 which are between Hathersage and Bamford where the stepping stones cross the river. The views of the hills around on both sides are spectacular. I waded into the bottom of the first pool deciding what fly to try-nothing rising for 10mins. Then it started a put on a size 16 all brown fly and the first fish was a cracking 2lb Brownie followed by 4 more brownies and 1 grayling. A really enjoyable couple of hours before heading for home to do some gardening.

30th June

Decided to go late tonight on Beat 6 the weather had been very hot all day, when I arrived I couldn't believe it you couldn't see down the river for the mist I've never seen it like that before.
They were not rising much - only had 2 browies on a spinner pattern.

Saturday 27 June

This week has been rather busy Monday Heathrow, Wednesday Wimbledon, Thursday Birmingham University Open Day, and finally the replacement PC arrived on Friday. So on
Saturday evening I fished beat 2 which is the beat just above Grindleford Bridge and it wasn't easy, this beat suits a right hander better all the same a managed 2 nice sized brownies before
retreating to the Bridge Inn for a pint !

23rd June 2009

I fished beat 21 tonight just for 1 hour, as we were going to Wimbledon early the next morning caught 4 brownies all on Olive F Fly what a lovely evening, this year up to now we have had so many great evenings far more than last year.

20th June 2009

I'm sorry for the lack of info over the last couple of weeks, two reasons no PC and we were in Geneva last weekend, I must say we had a fabulous time with our friends who live there. Well
the last couple of days I fished the Yorkshire Derwent with John my Chairman, and had a great time, the valley through which it flows is very attractive and on Friday I managed to hook 7 brownies, and 3 brownies on the Saturday before we left at around 14.00.
