I've been rather busy with the family today, so I didn't get down to the river
until 15.00 and to my surprise the fish were raising, second cast a cracking Brownie
and within no time another two Brownies all good fish all taken on size 16 all brown dry
fly. No sign of any Grayling. Only fished for an hour before the temperature was
dropping and unfortunately I lost my wading staff. I forgot to put and strap round
my neck.! Will have to look for a new one.

Monday 5th October
This will be my last blog of the Trout Season 2009, today being on holiday I invited my
Chairman to fish as my guest on Derwent Fly water and we met at 10.00 in the car park for beats 8/9/10 it was only 4 degrees I thought no rising fish and how wrong could I be. We both
had a cracking morning until 12.30 when we stopped for lunch at the Plough very nice. After
lunch it wasn't quite as good but we both finished up with 7 each Grayling/Brownies and 1 Rainbow.
This was my best Brownie of the day.

Sunday 4th October
Well folks today was the day when Derwentflyfisher and Baslowfisher fished together
at Chatsworth. We had a very enjoyable afternoon started with very special Hancocks pork pie and beer before fishing a rather deep stretch - we were both up to our arm pits before
moving up river to shallower water. We walked up through the park and fish all the good spots
I finished up with 3 Grayling and 3 Brownies, all taken on the all brown dry fly again. Not sure how many Baslowfisher caught but his best fish was a cracking Rainbow I'm sure there will be a picture on his blog. we stopped about 17.00 and finished to day off with more special pork pie
and beer. Thanks Baslowfisher a great afternoon.

Friday 2nd October
Decided to book a couple of days holiday and make it a long weekend, booked my
favourite beats 6 & 7, when I arrived at the car park and looked down at the river
lots of leaves - very autumnal. The rain just kept off and managed to fish for an hour
and half had 3 good Brownies and lost one all to my all brown fly, it really has been a
cracking little fly this season. The leaves are a bit of a problem but a river is in very
good condition.
The end of the Trout season is not far away now- 7th October. Then its Grayling till
the end of the season.

Saturday 26th September
Well folks- with the shorter evenings now the weekends are the only time to get down to the river. So today I booked beats 8, 9 and 10 and the weather forecast was very good for this time of the year. I was joined by a Friend from the village and we started at the bottom of beat 8 and
fished our way up the river in turns, I was just into my first fish a good sized brownie when I had the company of one water vole swimming directly across the river - they always swim in such a straight line. We had a very enjoyable afternoon, my guest finished up with 3 Rainbows
6 Brownies and my count was 1 Grayling and 5 Brownies, and as we were walking back to the car the Red Arrows flew over- really making it a special day. So we finished off with a couple of
bottles of Becks !!

I had jobs to do this morning so this afternoon I thought lets go fishing !
and what an afternoon and first hour was a bit quiet with just one small
Grayling I must say it was a bit bright and sunny. Managed to move up
under the shade of the trees and things really started to happen. In the
next hour I had 5 Brownies and 4 Rainbows what a absolutely cracking
afternoon, I said September was going to be a good month.

and had 2 small grayling on my all brown fly before switching back to Beat 7 for one more brownies before heading to the pub. Very enjoyable evening great to be back.

Monday 6th July
It rained in bucket fulls most of the day in Doncaster today and still raining hard
when I arrived home in Baslow. I thought the best place in fish was beat 21, I didn't get to the river until 20.00hrs and the temp had dropped to 14c, I waded up from the bottom of the beat waiting for a rise. I still had one of my all brown flies left and cast it up t0 the first rise and what a cracking rainbow of all of 2lbs -first rainbow I've caught on that beat as it is mainly wild brownies. Things really went off and I only had one more wild brownie to the dry. Left the river at 21.15 and headed for the pub.

Saturday 4th July
We had quite a lot of rain yesterday, but the Derwent today was in great shape. I booked
beats 14 & 15 which are between Hathersage and Bamford where the stepping stones cross the river. The views of the hills around on both sides are spectacular. I waded into the bottom of the first pool deciding what fly to try-nothing rising for 10mins. Then it started a put on a size 16 all brown fly and the first fish was a cracking 2lb Brownie followed by 4 more brownies and 1 grayling. A really enjoyable couple of hours before heading for home to do some gardening.

Saturday evening I fished beat 2 which is the beat just above Grindleford Bridge and it wasn't easy, this beat suits a right hander better all the same a managed 2 nice sized brownies before
retreating to the Bridge Inn for a pint !

I'm sorry for the lack of info over the last couple of weeks, two reasons no PC and we were in Geneva last weekend, I must say we had a fabulous time with our friends who live there. Well
the last couple of days I fished the Yorkshire Derwent with John my Chairman, and had a great time, the valley through which it flows is very attractive and on Friday I managed to hook 7 brownies, and 3 brownies on the Saturday before we left at around 14.00.
